We Need You (To Get Out of the Garage)
(The following is a slightly modified excerpt from a draft chapter in our upcoming book, Walking Through Walls.)
"Gray hair is a crown of glory..." (Proverbs 16:31)
I like classic trucks. I don’t own one because who has extra money to buy superfluous stuff like that when you have two small kids, but I think they are cool. A restored classic truck is shiny and beautiful, with a chromed engine compartment and wooden slats in the truck bed. The tweed bench seats are plush and the gear shifters rise from the carpet floor begging us to turn the key and drive.
But people rarely drive classic trucks. They park them in their garage in all of their beauty and stare at them as a novelty, all clean and powerful and stationary.
2 Corinthians 4:16 says that we are being renewed day by day, so the more days we have under the Lordship of Jesus, the more renewed (Christ-like) we become. If you are up in years, this means you are quite something by now.
Don’t stay in the garage in your splendor. We need to see you driving down the street too fast with the sun hitting your bright spots. Go paint something, mentor, teach someone, write something, start something.
We need you.
