We have a man problem.
Surely you have noticed. Too many fathers are absent, too many husbands distracted, too many homes wrecked. We have adult males who are men in name only. I blame us men. But I'm not here to beat us imperfect and sin prone dudes up. Many of us just don't know what to do. For some guys, the only thing their father taught them how to drink themselves unconscious or worship football. Popular culture muddies the waters even more.
If we want to be the men God made us to be, we must consider the example of Jesus. He was a servant leader. He was strong, humble, loving, courageous, loyal, and honest. He was, in a word, perfect. If we need a guide, it stands to reason we'd look to the Ultimate Guide. But Jesus isn't just a role model. Oh no, He is much more. He is God. So we look to Him to meditate on His glory so we can worship Him and as we do so, we will be changed over time (2 Cor. 3:18). Our worship of Jesus is primary and the life change is secondary, a side effect. We don't aim at life change first - we aim our attention upon the person of Jesus.
Starting this Monday, I'm starting a seven week blog series called Manspirations on the manly virtues we chase. The virtues that Jesus perfected. I hope it'll make you worship and praise God and maybe - just maybe - it'll shape your manhood too.
