a voice crying out in the postmodern wilderness

Roads of Broken Altars

Over and over
God relented
Pharaoh never repented
Just returned to his stiffness

Though God’s might
Was revealed in terrible wonder
He repeated the blunder
I know it so well

I have waded in blood
Choked on flies
Livestock dies
Heels dug in the dust from which I came

My kingdom come
My will be done

Mercy unrelenting
With tears of blood I groan
Carry me home
On roads paved with broken altars
